Augusto Perera, Esq. is a trademark lawyer based in Coral Gables, Florida, with more than two decades of experience in intellectual property across two legal systems. He is a member of The Florida Bar and is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court.
His practice is dedicated to trademarks, copyrights, licensing and Internet law. Day to day, that means clearance searches, USPTO applications, Office Action responses, oppositions and cancellations before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB), domain name disputes and litigation in federal and state courts, always with a focus on helping new and growing businesses protect what they build.
Mr. Perera’s career in trademarks began in 1997, when he graduated from Havana University Law School and joined the Cuban Industrial Property Office (OCPI) as a Solicitor in its Legal Department. There he saw the trademark system from the inside: how applications are examined, why they are refused and how rights are won or lost.
He later earned his Juris Doctor from Shepard Broad College of Law in 2014. With law degrees from both the civil law and the common law traditions, he brings a rare perspective to clients whose brands cross borders.
That experience is reinforced by active leadership in the profession, including the Cuban American Bar Association (Director 2019-2024), the South Miami-Kendall Bar Association (President 2020-2021), the Dade County Bar Association (Director 2021-2026), the Coral Gables Bar Association (Board Member 2024-2026), the International Trademark Association (INTA) and the Inter-American Association of Intellectual Property (ASIPI, U.S. Alternate Delegate 2021-2025).
